Helping Street Dogs In Mexico

Many people that know me are already aware I am a Canadian expat living in Tequisquiapan, Mexico and running a dog rescue called “Helping Street Dogs In Mexico” since July 2016. I was working online for 7 years to support my rescue and lost my contract when the company I worked for was purchased by Nestles. It has been a struggle to say the least. I have put my house up on the market and will return to Canada (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) first week of May 2023. I will look for work and start my life again. My husband and I have amicably separated and I am now here in Mexico on my own.

I built my rescue up over the last 7 years, created a partnership with Fundacion DAR Refuge where the dogs stay (instead of in my home) and found a group of young people to be on our very new Board of Directors as we pursue our 503(c)3 status in the United States. We will be changing the name of our rescue, Helping Street Dogs In Mexico, mid-year and creating a new website once it is official (old website taken down in Jan 2023). We will call ourselves Foundation DAR, USA. I will be AWOL from the rescue until I get back on my feet again, but I leave it in capable hands.

Before moving back to Canada, I’ll have to re-home my gang of 9 rescues, since I won’t be able to afford their vet care in Canada. They are the crazy un-adoptables I’ve had to keep. I trust Paula of New York Pet Rescue, who has assured me that each and every misfit will find a home where they are well cared for.

To say I am heart-broken is an understatement, but I am also very proud of what I have managed to achieve and how many animals I have actually saved. I’ll have a grieving/guilt process that will have to be taken one day at a time.
